Dominioni Editore The Mountaineer is a board game in which the passion for the mountains and mountaineering come together. The Mountaineer is a re-edition of a rare 19th century game that reproduces the fascinating world of mountaineering: a sport which, in addition to healthy competition, has solidarity, help and friendship among its founding values. Cross the Alps and complete a journey full of challenges and unexpected events.

VERTICAL BOARDS TO ASSEMBLE
What makes this splendid board game unique is the structure of the three boards. Each board is cut following the profile of the mountains. Once assembled vertically, they will form the mountain chain where the mountaineer players' pawns will move.

The modern edition of the game has kept the graphics and structure of the ancient edition almost completely identical, thus preserving the beauty of the original illustrations. The details and nineteenth-century style allow players to immerse themselves in a romantic atmosphere, taking them back to the era of the origins of mountaineering.

The rules of the game, however, have been revisited and are introduced by a story, with the aim of making the game not only fun but also educational.

RULES IN 4 LANGUAGES: Italian, German, French, English.

THE STORY: the mysterious traveler and the magical source
Players, you are hiking in the mountains, along the path you find a traveler with a tired gait and worn clothes. You approach to make sure he is okay, the traveler asks you to stop for a moment with him to rest and tells you the story of the wise mountaineer's Great Route:

“This path leads to the magical source; you will have to be careful though, this is invisible to people distracted by the illusions of the mountain. The source is revealed only to a deserving mountaineer, and one who has overcome the tests of strength that the mountain poses along his path, defeating the obstacles of the mind and the greed of the heart can be considered such. It will be your choices, the people you rely on and a pinch of luck that will guide you towards the magical source. Remember: in his presence the mountaineer will be able to drink and live a life full of satisfactions".

Enthusiastic, you decide to immediately embark on the journey in search of the "magic source".

You find yourself on the edge of the forest at the foot of an impervious mountain.
At the entrance to a steep path there is a sign with the words:
“Great things are accomplished when men and mountains meet” William Blake

You understand that you are in the right place: let the journey begin!

ALPINISM AND VALUES:
SOLIDARITY, HELP AND FRIENDSHIP

You advance from stage 1 by rolling the die and must reach stage 80. When you stop at an intermediate stage you must follow the instructions. The instructions may benefit or penalize the player by making him advance, retreat or stop.

During the journey there will be many obstacles to overcome and in order not to get into difficulty, the "HELP" tokens collected along the journey will have to be played.

If a player does not have any tokens, he can ask for help from another opposing player, which he may or may not accept, thus enhancing the values of solidarity, help and friendship that are the basis of mountaineering.

No. 33 – The storm is coming, if you have a token you are saved and on the next turn you start again, if you don't have a token and no one helps you you go back to stage 27.

By stopping at some special stages, the player will instead be asked to choose between 2 options, a player's choices can decide the fate of his game and his journey.

No. 13 – You have arrived at the cabin. You choose:

A) You eat abundantly, proceed: roll the die one more time.
B) Take the climbing “EQUIPMENT” card.

THE EDUCATIONAL MESSAGE OF THE GAME THE MOUNTAINIST
Only at the end of the journey is the educational message of the game "The Mountaineer" revealed to the players and therefore the true nature of the "magic source" revealed by the mysterious traveller.

“The magical source is hidden in the choices you have made along the way: with solidarity and friendship you nourish your heart, mind and body. Inside you will know if you won this game and if you also managed to help your friends."
